Meet Thatcher!
Thatcher is a fun-loving, cheeky terrier with a big personality and plenty of character. Since arriving at the centre, we’ve watched him grow in confidence and really come out of his shell, and he’s now showing us much more of his true terrier personality.
Thatcher loves toys, exploring and getting involved in whatever is happening around him. Whilst Thatcher’s enjoys the company of other dogs out and about, he’d rather be the only pet in the home.
Thatcher is looking for an adult-only, quiet and relatively calm home with experienced owners who understand terrier behaviour and the typical traits that can come with it. A busy family environment would likely be overwhelming for him, and frequent visitors or lots of unfamiliar people coming and going could be a significant source of stress. He needs a home where he can have a predictable routine, plenty of downtime and the opportunity to build confidence at his own pace.
He isn’t going to be a ready-made, easy dog from day one. His new family will need to be patient, resilient and committed to training, with an understanding that progress may take time. Terrier or working breed experience is essential, as Thatcher shows lots of the typical behaviours and tendencies we would expect from a terrier and needs owners who understand how to work with these rather than simply expecting them to disappear.
Thatcher has sadly returned to the centre after his first placement, as his needs proved more challenging in a home environment than we had initially anticipated. This wasn’t a failure on his adopters’ part – we simply hadn’t realised quite how much support he would need once settled into a home. We’re now determined to find the right match for him and make sure his next home is one where everyone is properly prepared for what he needs.
For this reason, we will not be able to rehome Thatcher’s with first-time dog owners, homes with cats or homes with children. We are looking for experienced people who can offer Thatcher the quiet environment, consistency and patient training he needs to succeed.
Once he knows and trusts you, Thatcher is a lovely, affectionate and hugely entertaining little dog. He has plenty of potential, but finding the right home for him is our top priority.
