Fostering with a view to adopt can be the best way to see if you and your new friend get along in your home. Here is a great example of a happy ever after:
‘A year ago I picked up these two furballs on a Foster with a view to adopt.
Devastated by two failed rescue attempts previously I was so anxious about trying again and some friends and family questioned my judgement.
Now known as Pebbles and Bam Bam, these two bring me joy every single day. Pebbles comes with some unique behaviours that I am working on…. along with my own. We are both a work in progress
There can be a lot of pressure to adopt not shop. I myself subscribe to the theory that it is better to give a home to a dog that doesn’t have one, than to buy a puppy and perpetuate an irresponsible breeding culture that is seeing our rescue centres overwhelmed.
Having said that it can be incredibly hard to take in a rescue and my personal circumstances of where I lived, living alone and working full time conspired against me when trying to meet the needs of Lenny and Domino (despite it appearing to be a good match on paper).
I cannot thank St Giles Animal Welfare enough for listening to my concerns and suggesting foster to adopt and for their patience whilst the kids and I sussed out if we were right for each other.
Happy gotcha day….to me!! ‘
